Did Jesus Exist?

A Rebuttal to the Error-Ridden Theory that Jesus did not Exist

Almost all biblical scholars, whether conservative or liberal, agree on some basic facts about the historical Jesus such as, for one, the fact that he existed. There are some skeptics of the Bible however, who insist that Jesus was just invented by the early followers of Christianity. They basically argue two things: 1) no contemporary sources mention Jesus, and 2) Jesus resembles the numerous pagan deities throughout the Near Eastern and Greco-Roman cultures.

We will see in this article that this is very far from the case! Some things I'd like to add before more details are given is that: 1) contemporary historians couldn't have cared less about Judea or Jesus, and our sources are recent enough to establish some facts. Moreover, the New Testament books are writings that mention Jesus and don't need to be excluded just because they are religious writings. Things such as Jesus' existence are sufficiently shown by these documents who don't even try to prove the existence of someone who is supposed to have been invented 20-50 years earlier - a situation which would have certainly existed had Jesus been completely made up. 2) The similarities between Jesus and other pagan gods are often so strained that it takes more faith to believe the myther's logic than Jesus' existence.

But in any case, here are our categories, each with its subsections discussing the evidence for and against the existence of Christ.
